Welcome to St. John the Evangelist

St. John the Evangelist Parish in Lambertville, NJ invites you to join us March 23-25 2019 for our Lenten Mission focused on the Divine Mercy.  Joining us are Sr. Donata and Sr. Veritas from the congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy, Washington DC.

Reflections during Mass on Saturday and Sunday will focus on the "Divine Mercy – the message for today." Mass times are Saturday, March 23 5:00pm and Sunday March 24 8:00am, 9:30 am and 11:00am.

On Sunday March 24, there will be an Adoration beginning 3pm followed by the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

On Monday, March 25, at 6:30pm Sr. Donata will discuss the "Sacrament of Reconciliation – the way to peace of heart."  Confessions will immediately follow.  There will be additional Priests available to hear confessions.

The Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy was founded in 1862 by mother Teresa Potocka in Poland. The charism of the Congregation was first directed to girls and women in need of moral renewal.

In 1925, Helen Kowalska, who would later be known as St. Faustina, joined this religious family. It was to her that Our Lord revealed the message of Divine Mercy, and entrusted her with the mission of reminding and proclaiming this truth to the whole world.

Now the Sisters carry out this task through their prayer, word and deed of mercy.

Sr. M. Donata Farbaniec – born in Poland. Joined the Congregation in 1995. She is a perpetually professed sister. She used to work for a few years as a member of a formation team, accompanying the candidates on the first stage of their religious life. In 2010-2013 she was assigned to the community in Boston, Massachusetts. Afterwards she worked in one of the retreat houses of the Congregation and in 2016 she began a ministry of propagation of the message of Divine Mercy in John Paul II National Shrine in Washington DC.

Sr. Veritas, a young American Sister, just made her first Religious Vows and will accompany Sr. Donata.

In 2007, His Holiness, our Retired Pope Benedict XVI set as a day for the whole Church to pray for the Church in China:  the 24th of May, Feast of Mary, Help of Christians.

Our Lady of Sheshan

Prayer to Our Lady of Sheshan by Pope Benedict XVI

Virgin Most Holy, Mother of the Incarnate Word and our Mother, venerated in the Shrine of Sheshan under the title “Help of Christians” the entire Church in China looks to you with devout affection.

We come before you today to implore your protection.  Look upon the People of God and, with a mother’s care, guide them along the paths of truth and love, so that they may always be a leaven of harmonious coexistence among all citizens.

When you obediently said “yes” in the house of Nazareth, you allowed God’s eternal Son to take flesh in your virginal womb and thus to begin in history the work of our redemption.

You willingly and generously cooperated in that work, allowing the sword of pain to pierce your soul, until the supreme hour of the Cross, when you kept watch on Calvary, standing beside your Son, who died that we might live.

From that moment, you became, in a new way, the Mother of all those who receive your Son Jesus in faith and choose to follow in his footsteps by taking up his Cross.   Mother of Hope, in the darkness of Holy Saturday you journeyed with unfailing trust towards the dawn of Easter.  Grant that your children may discern at all times, even those that are darkest, the signs of God’s loving presence.

Our Lady of Sheshan, sustain all those in China, who, amid their daily trails, continue to believe, to hope, to love.  May they never be afraid to speak of Jesus to the world and of the world to Jesus.

In the statue overlooking the Shrine you lift your Son on high, offering him to the world with open arms in a gesture of love.  Help Catholics always to be credible witnesses to this love, every clinging to the rock of Peter on which the Church is built.

Mother of China and all Asia, pray for us, now and forever.
